Tiniest U.S.S. Enterprise EVER! 1-billionth-scale model of the ship

This model of the U.S.S Enterprise is the smallest, ever!

Yes, it's got a couple mis-formed sections, but it's 8.8 microns! Wow!
8.8 microns is the size of a human red blood cell. That's how big, err small, this model is.

From Screenrant:
Back in 2003, Takayuki Hoshino and Shinji Matsui of the Himeji Institute of Technology in Japan created a one-of-a-kind scale model of the Star Trek Starship Enterprise NCC-1701D.
What made the model so unique? It was made of phenanthrene gas and it was exactly 8.8 microns long. For a sense of scale, one micron is 1,000th of a millimeter.
I don't think we'll be seeing another model beat this record anytime soon!

Sorry for the delay to those who follow via RSS and don't follow either the Facebook or Twitter accounts.

I started hosting random scifi polls on Twitter, and we're underway on the second poll so far.

Who is the best Male Scifi actor from the past decade?
The poll ends in under 12 hours, so don't delay in voting! Future polls will probably be for several days, and I'll be keeping track of the winners here on the blog.

Summer Glau joins NBC's new superhero show "The Cape"

Summer Glau has been around TV a lot, going from Angel, to Firefly/Serenity, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Dollhouse... and now will be making her way to NBC via a new pilot for "The Cape".

Yes, NBC is doing another superhero show.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news:
"In the pilot, directed by Simon West, a former cop (David Lyons) is set up as a criminal and becomes a masked hero, the Cape, to clear his name.
Glau will play Orwell, a cute and intrepid investigative blogger who fearlessly goes after corrupt cops and costumed bad guys."

What does this mean for Heroes? Is NBC looking for a replacement for their show that dropped dramatically in ratings this last season? I still believe NBC can capture a strong scifi/superhero audience (look at Chuck for example), but will "The Cape" be it?

Do you think NBC can recover in the scifi scene with this new pilot? Are you excited to see Summer Glau again? I am!

Battlestar Galactica Online MMO in the works!

Frakkin' awesome! Fidgit reports that Norwegian game developer Artplant is building Battlestar Galactica Online for massively multiplayer online gaming publisher Bigpoint.

"Leading [MMO publisher Bigpoint's] product slate for 2010 will be Battlestar Galactica Online, a tactical space combat and adventure MMOG based upon Syfy's Battlestar Galactica series. The game, inspired by one of the most popular science fiction series in television history, will launch worldwide exclusively this fall on Syfy.com for a 30 day period. The Unity co-developed MMOG will offer state of the art graphics that can be played directly in an Internet browser.

Players will be able to choose to play as cylons or humans in a constant struggle to control the universe or just survive its perils. A blend of tactical space combat, exploration, and mission-based gameplay will provide a diverse experience. The dramatic missions will define the game's overall storyline, enabling the player to delve into mysteries of the Battlestar universe. Battlestar Galactica Online will create a new standard for web games, with beautiful 3d graphics and innovative game mechanics bringing a new level of game play to browser based MMOG. Assets from the television production will be integrated into the game to deliver an even more authentic experience."

Definitely awesome! I can't wait to see how this progresses, and what it looks like. I've played some browser based games (Quake Live) and they're really good with 3D graphics and everything I'd expect from a game. Hopefully this will be the same!

Disney World turns monorails into Tron light cycles

To help promote Disney's upcoming Tron Legacy movie, they are repainting the monorails as light cycles from the movie!

From Disney: "The transformed trains will be visible on the Epcot monorail line as early as this month. And if you look close, you'll notice that the design of the futuristic motorcycle-like vehicles from the upcoming film Tron: Legacy also includes walls of trailing colored light."

So far there's no news on if Disneyland in California will receive the same Tron treatment.

Make your own "Ice-Planet" dessert like River Tam eats on Firefly

Remember River Tam's attempt to eat the dessert on a string called an "Ice-Planet"?

Well I just came across a recipe where someone actually made one!

But wait, wouldn't it melt and be really messy? That's what I thought, but the article explains otherwise: "What’s so great about this dessert, is that is it super fun to eat. There are several methods to consumption. You can try to bite the planet from the side (never getting much); lick the planet (which yields little, but is less messy); or attack from the southern pole (which is most effective because the gravity of Earth-that-is is helping the process)."

You know you want to try it! Check it out at the link below:
