Bad news: Fox (famous for killing Firefly, Dollhouse and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles—is developing a U.S. version of the hit Doctor Who spinoff series Torchwood.
Possibly good news: Torchwood creator Russell T. Davies is writing the script for the pilot. And Captain Jack Harkness himself—John Barrowman—might star!
The Hollywood Reporter's Live Feed reportes:
Unlike U.S. adaptations that have gone awry, Torchwood fans can take comfort that the original producing team is on board. In addition to Davies, exec producers include Davies' producing partner Julie Gardner (former head of drama at BBC Wales for the show's first season) and Jane Tranter (another BBC vet, now exec VP programming and production at BBC Worldwide Prods. in the U.S.). Also, some of the current cast—most likely John Barrowman, who plays the immortal Capt. Jack Harkness—might star if Fox orders Torchwood to pilot.I honestly don't think it has a chance, being on Fox and all. What do you think?
I just want to know how a character like omni-sexual Jack Harkness would ever work on a U.S. network television show? Especially on FOX, a network that ends its national programming at 10:00 PM.
ReplyDeleteIf you think Captain Jack Harkness can't be killed, well let Fox get hold of Torchwood. Him and the series will be dead before you can say Ianto Jones ! Why is it that US networks think they can take a good thing like Torchwood, Doctor Who or Being Human, revamp it and everyone will just love it. I mean look at what happened to Life on Mars. My advice, don't screw around with it !
ReplyDeleteThere is the slightest chance that this could work out for the better but the whole Captain Jack thing? Do you ever think he would leave cardiff to go work in the U.S. Anyway the U.S doesn't need a Torchwood base, the rift is in Cardiff remember?
ReplyDeleteThis has 'bad idea' written all over it. FOX as a network is homophopic, I can't image how it would deal with Cpt. Jack's omnisexuality in a positive light. Which would kill the show fast as anything because so much of the show is tied into how and who Jack loves. As a fan of Torchwood I would love to see more episodes, but not at the expense of the characters I've grown to care so much about.
ReplyDeleteHe's going to play Capt. Jack on TorchWood in the UK while also playing the same (or same type of) character on the same series in the US?
ReplyDeleteNot going to happen.
