Stunning LEGO Stargate Panorama created by 15 Year Old

This, my friends is how LEGO creations should be. Amazing, majestic, and magnificent.
Fifteen year old Sven Junga is a very talented guy, and is the creator of the highly detailed LEGO version of the Daedalus from Stargate Atlantis - including an awesome diorama of the surrounding ship landing area!

:O  I never was this good with LEGO blocks. I would not be surprised if LEGO HQ offered him a job to come design creations for them soon. He has more LEGO creations in his Flicker Gallery [link], such as this bonus, the Star Trek Voyager - LEGO edition.

Serenity "flies again" - Video of Firefly ship's "Big Damn Replica" & Now Shipping

Remember the  Serenity Keychain from a while back? Well the same company has been making a larger scale, VERY detailed replica of Serenity. We've got the video of the $2,495 replica below, with flashing lights and all! They're now shipping the replica, in case anyone seriously is ordering one. Store Link
"From the Press Release: The First and Only Studio Scale, Film-Quality Replica of the Firefly-Class Transport, Serenity Celebrated by millions of fans around the world, the titular ship of Joss Whedon's visionary movie masterpiece, Serenity, has existed in all its glory in digital form only - until now.
More than three years in the making, Serenity - The Big Damn Replica, has been painstakingly crafted to be absolutely screen-accurate in every aspect. Unlike most ships from science fiction, Serenity was designed from the ground up to be as realistic as possible, from her floor plan to her construction, using real-world components and manufacturing processes. As one of her creators observed, the idea was to make Serenity so real, fans could see themselves walking her decks. With such a sense of place and familiarity, viewers would never feel lost in this Firefly-Class Transport.
Some of the features of Serenity - The Big Damn Replica:
* One big boat. Our Serenity measures 19"x12"x7", or 1:180 scale. (display stand adds 4.5")
* Incredible complexity. The kit used to build Serenity consists of more than 250 parts, including resin, brass, aluminum and laser-cut acrylic. Many of the parts are custom-cut by hand, just for your replica.
* Film-quality build. Some 30 different colors, including flat and metallic paint, are used in the ship's multilayer paint job.
* Spitting image.Weathering, wear and other painting effects are used to exactly mirror the movie version of ship.
* Superior components. Surfaces are crafted to simulate real-world materials - metal, ceramic, even the mirrored surfaces of the solar panels.
* No decals. All graphics on Serenity are painted on by hand, even Serenity's logo.
* SFX Edition.Serenity - The Big Damn Replica incorporates some 32 lighting effects, including static, flashing, strobe and chase lights.
* Signature Edition. Nathan Fillion, Captain Mal himself, will be signing the builder's plaque that comes with each Big Damn Replica.
* Wireless remote. The SFX Edition replica includes a wireless remote control to operate lights with a special button for activating "hard burn." Lighting system automatically shuts down after 15 minutes to help protect the both the lights and model.

* Cool display. Serenity's display base/diorama looks like a landing pad straight out of The Verse. It comes with an acrylic cradle that shows Serenity in flight. Standard configuration features Inara's shuttle taking off while the other shuttle is docked in its bay. (If you prefer a different configuration, please make note of it in the "Special Requests" field above*).
* Big Damn Heroes.Crew members can be seen on the bridge.
* Pro Prop Crate. Each Serenity is shipped in custom-cut foam and stored in a hand-built wooden apple crate, just like what the pros use to safeguard their props.
* Jason Palmer Exclusive Art Print. Jason Palmer, one of the premier portrait artists working in entertainment today, was so taken with our girl that he's creating an special art print of Serenity only available with the Big Damn Replica.

Options available for customization* include:
* Engines pose (Crazy Ivan, anyone?)
* Shuttles in-flight or docked.
* Reactor shutters open or closed.
* Other special requests
Although every Artisan replica we make is, in a real sense, an edition of one, we understand having an edition number is very important to collectors. That's why we've set the edition size for Serenity - The Big Damn Replica at just 1,000 ships total."

I thought that was a particularly odd music choice. I personally would rather have used the Firefly theme.

Is anyone reading this going to buy one? Does anyone have that kinda of extra cash laying around? Unfortunately, I don't. I would love this on my desk at home, work, anywhere.

John Barrowman's new Doctor Who song! "The Doctor and I" (preview)

Torchwood's John Barrowman is coming out with a new Doctor-themed song you can preview below
What's On Stage reports: The song, "The Doctor and I," is a variation of "The Wizard and I" from the musical Wicked, and deals with Barrowman's Captain Jack and his relationship with the Doctor.

The song is a bonus track on Barrowman's upcoming solo album.
Barrowman explains, "I first sang this version of the song at a concert in Wales for, amongst others, David Tennant and Russell T Davies, and they loved it ... We've given it new lyrics to make the song relevant to Captain Jack and his relationship with the Doctor. It's quirky, it's funny and it's really good. I'm terribly proud of it."
Barrowman's album comes out on March 1 on iTunes.

Admiral Ackbar as a University Mascot? It's a trap!

According to Zap2It, students at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) are considering making Star Wars' Admiral Ackbar their new mascot.

The school wants the rebel leader from Return of the Jedi to replace Colonel Reb, a controversial figure, who was retired in 2003.

The student mascot committee will get the final vote, but George Lucas would also have to sign on to the idea as well, or somebody's gonna sue.

Coolest mascot ever? I think so.

Stargate Universe producer Robert Cooper Nominated for WGC Award for his work on "Time"

Sometimes it's evident what episodes in a series are the best. With Stargate Universe, many fans agree that "Time" is one of the best episodes so far.
From the article, "The WGC Screenwriting Awards honours excellence in screenwriting and will celebrate the winning words of 2009 on April 19 at the 14th Annual WGC Screenwriting Awards held in Toronto.

This year, more than 148 scripts vied for the judges’ attentions. The entries have been narrowed to 43 finalist scripts across 11 categories, including screenwriting for feature film, episodic half-hour and one-hour, documentary film and more. In all, 76 screenwriters are up for awards. The winners will be announced at the 2010 WGC Screenwriting Awards on Monday, April 19, 2010, at Maro in Liberty Village, Toronto. Several special awards, including the WGC Showrunner Award, will also be handed out at the event."

I definitely think Robert Cooper deserves this award, and hope he writes more of the remaining Stargate Universe episodes. I really enjoyed "Time" and I hope the show's creators take this nomination as a hint!

New Doctor Who trailer with Matt Smith as the new Time Lord

BBC America has posted a teaser trailer for the upcoming new episodes of Doctor Who, which will feature Matt Smith as the 11th Doctor and Karen Gillan as his new companion.

As SciFiWire says, "It's not a series of clips from the episodes, but rather a kind of homage to past episodes and, especially, villains, such as the stone angels from the 2007 episode "Blink," which happens to have been written by Steven Moffat, Doctor Who's new show runner."

Hopefully Matt can get some of that same charm that David had as the Doctor. This wasn't the best trailer to show him off as the new Doctor...

And since they changed the logo, do you think they'll tweak the theme song too?

Wil Wheaton returns to Big Bang Theory

The Next Generation star Wil Wheaton tweeted that he'll return as Evil Wil Wheaton in an upcoming episode of CBS' Big Bang Theory.

I'm hoping Sheldon can come back and get Wil this time. Wil's grandmother trick was low (and pretty lame, but it did work).

Maybe we'll get to hear Sheldon saying...

Mitt Romney used Spock's Vulcan nerve pinch on a rapper?

Share reports that Mitt Romney is possibly a Vulcan now. Earlier in the week, the Republican Presidential candidate got into a scuffle on an airplane with a rapper who says Romney started the fight with a "Vulcan grip".

The AP video below reports the original incident, that Mitt Romney was involved in a fight on a flight from Vancouver to Los Angeles with the other passenger, but was not hurt.

The rapper's name is Skylar Gordy, half of the rap band LMFAO. The second video is TMZ's interview where they accuse Mitt of the Star Trek violence.

I personally don't think Mitt could pull off the grip. And The rapper doesn't look too credible for me, but hey - it's Friday and this is the latest news!

Joss Whedon looking for SUPERFANS (you?) for Comic-Con Documentary

Marc Malkin at Eonline reports that Joss Whedon's next work might not be a TV show, but instead, a documentary.

From the article: "I just got word that the Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator is developing a documentary feature about Comic-Con that will be centered on a still-to-be-cast group of convention-going superfans.

Whedon is teaming up with award-winning Super Size Me director Morgan Spurlock, according to a source.

'They want to follow people for about three months leading up to this year's Comic-Con,' the source said. 'And then they want to film them there. They're looking at all types of people.' "

Now I don't know of any good methods of getting in touch with Joss, but I'm guessing if you're a super-fan, you either already know or it won't stop you anyway. This is an interesting side project for Joss, but I still want Dr. Horrible 2 instead!

Joss Whedon recruits Amy Acker (Angel, Dollhouse) for part in Cabin in the Woods

Amy Acker, probably known most for her role in Angel and recent role in Dollhouse, has a role in Joss Whedon's new 3D horror movie, The Cabin In The Woods. Whedon produced and co-wrote the script.

Joss Whedon is known for frequently recasting his characters, to the delight of many fans who have seen the actors in their other Joss favorites. Amy Acker, told SciFiWire recently that she jumped at the chance to be in the movie.

"That was another kind of lucky thing," Acker said in the interview. "They hadn't found someone, and it was just a couple of days before shooting, so they asked me to go do Cabin in the Woods. Drew is just so awesome, and, of course, Joss is one of my best friends. Any opportunity, I always am like, 'I'll do catering. I don't care. Just let me hang out with you guys.'"

Acker talked about her role without any spoilers: "It's a smaller role, but I was out there for three weeks of it," she said.

The Cabin in the Woods opens in theaters on Jan.14, 2011.

New Spiderman movie will be 3D and will come out July 3, 2012

Sony apparently thinks we haven't seen enough Spiderman the past couple years. Sony confirmed that its reboot of Spider-Man will be in 3-D and will come out in theaters on July 3, 2012.
From the Announcement:
Spider-Man will swing into theaters worldwide in 3D beginning July 3, 2012, it was announced today by Jeff Blake, Chairman of Sony Pictures Worldwide Marketing & Distribution. The new film which is still untitled, will begin production later this year directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt. Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin will produce the film from Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios.
Commenting on the announcement, Blake said, "Spider-Man is the ultimate summer movie-going experience, and we're thrilled the filmmakers are presenting the next installment in 3D. Spider-Man is one of the most popular characters in the world, and we know audiences are eager and excited to discover Marc's fantastic vision for Peter Parker and the franchise."

My prediction is that with all the swinging and web-throwing that Spiderman does, the 3D will be VERY gimmicky.

Star Trek: The Sexed Generation - When TV Writers have Dirty Minds (NSFW)

NSFW Audio

Apparently the writers of Star Trek, The Next Generation had very, very dirty minds. A fan decided to find as many dirty clips from the show, and compile them in one, 10 minute long clip that is simply... hard to describe. (get it?)

I'm not sure which one is more effective at communicating it's "message"; the audio or video version. Anyway, I'm sure this is the most disturbing Star Trek TNG clip you'll see posted to this blog.

Michael Shanks (Daniel Jackson) thinks Stargate SG-1 is dead; and will guest-star in SG: Universe

According to an interview with Michael Shanks via Sci Fi Wire:
"Given the amount of time lag that's gone on between us doing the movies, I suspect that we might be very far away from, if ever, doing another DVD movie. This might be the closing of the book on that particular [chapter of the] franchise," said Shanks, who Sci Fi Wire interviewed recently.

"Never say never. It's always a possibility. But I think everybody's moving on to a certain point, and with the new show doing well, everybody's focusing their attention on that. The SG-1 idea is somewhat in the back burner, which is a little bit unfortunate because I think one more story would have been a great way to bring Rick (Richard Dean Anderson) back in and really go there. But you know, business is business."

Syfy's Stargate Universe, is the latest in the Stargate series, and will return to TV on April 2.

Dr. Daniel Jackson will also be guest-staring in two upcoming SG-U episodes.

Avatar in 4D - Koreans add lasers and explosives to the movie

Koreans are a crazy bunch. Unsatisfied by 3D, they made it 4D! (similar to movies seen in Disneyland where the water spits at you).

Variety reports: Avatar in Korea has added 30 physical effects to the film: including moving seats, the smell of explosives, sprinkling water, laser lights and wind.

SciFiWire says: This isn't the first time Korean audiences have experienced 4D shows. The practice started last year with Journey to the Center of the Earth.

Do you want to see it in 4D now? What will people try next to make movies in "5D"?!

February Science Fiction Calendar - Movies, TV, Comics, Books...

Every month io9 posts a calendar of the upcoming Scifi for the month - including Scifi from all types of media. If you haven't downloaded their calendar for February yet, click the image to get to their page where you can download a hi-res version of the calendar, or a printable PDF.

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen receives 7 RAZZIE nominations, including Worst Picture of the Year

The RAZZIEs, for those who haven't heard of the awards before, are the highly prestigious awards for the WORST "Achievements" in film.

Yes, awards for sucking. Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen is one of this year's top "winners" so far with 7 nominations!

Arguably, the movie wasn't that great - although I still enjoyed watching it in theaters. I would nominate Megan Fox for any Worst Actress category that came along though.

The areas that Transformers 2 could score big in are the following:
  • Worst Director
  • Worst Picture
  • Worst Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel
  • Worst Screenplay
  • Worst Supporting Actress (Julie White as the stoned, screaming mother of Shia Le Bouf)
  • Worst Screen Couple (Le Bouf and EITHER Megan Fox OR Any Transformer)
  • Worst Actress (Megan Fox, also nominated in this category for her work in Jennifer's Body
How many RAZZIEs do you think Transformers 2 should win?

When Star Wars Opening Credits Attack - Star Wars vs Star Trek

Just where do the opening Star Wars credits go when they fade offscreen? Some fans got the video footage and it has been circulating around. I've got the video below!

(They did a really great job with the special effects too!)
